Lounging around...

One of the new favorite activities is lounging on pillows! I guess the apples really don't fall far from the tree...
The second pic is of Ella tickling Drew...

I am so funny...

Drew and Ella have discovered their humor, with a side of narcissism. They now do something funny and laugh at themselves! Drew will bang his cup on the table and do a hearty "Ha Ha!" Ella will hand us something, just to pull it back at the last minute and laugh. They laugh when they see us emerge from a hidden spot (ie the bathroom), they laugh when they accomplish something, and they laugh just to get our attention. Drew even laughed when I read a funny book - best part - he wasn't even in the same room!

Where there's smoke...

We planned a little weekend trip to Marshfield to visit with some family. Mike and I got a late start and arrived "home" at about 1:30 AM. My parents had just woken up off the couches to a house full of smoke. We opened all the windows and looked for a candle or something that could be the cause. After searching all the rooms and Dad circling the house, the smoke seemed to increase. Finally I suggested calling the fire department. Minutes later there were three fire trucks. After a quick exam the hoses came out and the axes started chopping. They found the fire behind the wall in the kitchen above the gas fireplace. I will never forget the look on my mother's face as they axed her house. We were on the front lawn with the babies all bundled up. It turned out to be a small fire caught just in time. It didn't spread to the upstairs bedroom (where the babies sleep) or further into the kitchen. Teri (Mark's fiance) and Mark did a super cleaning job that night as we fled to Auntie Pati's house. All in all there is some damage to two walls, the ceiling, and part of the floor. The smoke smell is almost gone. The fire alarms never went off and were later determined to be faulty - they were working 3 months ago.

We just can't stop thinking of the "what ifs." What if Mike and I weren't coming home and my parents just went to sleep? What if we got home earlier and we all went to bed? It goes on and on...

So the moral of the story: Kiss your family and check your smoke alarms. Repeat often.

Daddy's Girl

Ella calls for Mike randomly throughout the day, but when she knows he is home she is relentless!

Whats for dinner?

An average night in the Dargan house. I made a nice Apricot Pork Stirfry. Drew said "no, thank you" Actually he threw it on the floor after just looking at it. So, I gave him the next course, noodles with butter and cheese - rejected. On to his favorite, meatballs...not tonight! So, I pulled the old standby, scrambled eggs - Pass! Finally he ate some cornbread and peaches.

So, you may ask - "what do you do with all the rejected food?"

That is the best part of the story - Ella ate it all including Drew's portion!! So for dinner tonight Ella ate double portions of:
Pork
Noodles
Broccoli
Meatballs
Eggs
Cornbread
Peaches

And a lot of it!! They crack me up!

Baby Steps

Exactly one week after his first birthday Drew took his first independent steps! He walked about 3 steps back and forth between Mike and I. He is so proud of himself! Since then, he has increased the number of steps and the speed, but he still prefers to crawl.

For those of you who insist on comparing - Ella is still working on walking. I think she has the ability, but she is too scared! She walks using the walker, but at a snails pace and she panics if we let go of her hands while walking. Ill keep you updated.
