Sail Away

The rain was coming down strong and steady, so to the internet I went in search of an inside haven.

I found it at the Hull Lifesaving Museum. We drove until the road met the sea and pulled into the tiny parking lot. A renovated house, there wasn't much to look at until we reached the Children's Loft tucked way up in the attic. With the rain gently tapping on the roof and the lights casting a warm glow, it was perfect.

The kids sailed, fought off pirates, and pulled up lobster traps. Then we all climbed the ladder to the Widows Peak and spotted the lighthouses guiding the boats home.

Im not sure we will ever drive to the end of the earth for this museum again, but for that day it was worth it :)

A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Rodeo....

As we were leaving the little local rodeo, we spotted this fake Bull across the parking lot. The kids were unsure about how it worked, so Mike volunteered to show em the ropes! We literally laughed until we cried.
Mike :: "Ok kids, let Daddy show you how to ride a bull!'
Ella :: "Ha! Ha! Daddy's stuck!"

 ...5 minutes later...
Drew :: "Hey Dad, I think you are backwards."
Me :: "Go easy on him kids!"
Mike :: "Yee Haw!!"

Welcome Summer 2012

Fresh from our first full day at the beach, we pulled into one of our favorite ice cream joints to cool off. I watched this man emerge from the ice cream store and hand his wife her frappe through the car window.  I couldn't take my eyes off of him. I jumped out with my camera and asked to take his picture.

"Why do you want to take my picture?"

"Because you look like the picture of Summer and you just made my day"

A few minutes later my brood and I were gathered on the front porch chattering about our day splashing in the waves and finding jelly fish. My new friend in the seersucker jacket returned with a fresh loaf of bread from the neighboring bakery.

"A gift for you" he said.

"Why are you giving me a gift?!"

"Because you and your children just made my day."

...and thus our Summer began.

Action Jackson

Tyler has two speeds, sleep and 90 MPH. When he is awake he is going, and going and going.

I love to watch him. His little body is so coordinated and purposeful. He never tires and he is always smiling. We laugh that he is similar to a puppy. Pent up in the house he looks for trouble, bouncing off of walls, furniture and little brothers. But get him outside with a chance to run and he is the happiest boy on the block.

Picture of the Week - Happy Birthday Mike :)

I have a lot of favorite things about this picture. One is their smiles. Mike always looks so happy in pictures, and although Colby is yelling "No!" at me, it looks like a smile!

We are at the beach here, and we all know by now that is my element. I am happiest on the beach always. And the fact that Mike likes it too is perfection.

The Boston Hoodie. He bought it on a whim while we were in Boston at night and he found himself without an extra layer. I was around the block with the kids and when we met back up I couldn't believe my eyes. First, I had never seen him in a hoodie sweatshirt. After 16 years together the surprises are getting few and far between. And it is a BOSTON hoodie. It is hard to describe how I feel about Mike moving to Boston. It makes me sad and ridiculously happy at the same time. I will forever be grateful that he chose this move with me. The sweatshirt somehow summed up all my feelings. Not bad for $20!

Memorial Day 2012

The unofficial start of summer, I love Memorial Day! This year didn't disappoint with a weekend visit from good friends and summer temps. We were outside for the entire weekend :: hiking with dogs, lounging by the pool and of course, the beach.
We drove out Sunday night with a car full of kids, sub sandwiches and marshmallows. The sky slowly changed from blue to black as we sat around the fire (tiny as it was :) talked and relaxed. It was Mike's first time driving out to Duxbury Beach and my childhood haunt didn't disappoint. He loved it. Good thing, because if he wants to see us this summer, he will have to be there :)
